Understanding Ledger Hardware Wallets
Ledger hardware wallets provide secure storage for cryptocurrency assets by keeping private keys isolated on a dedicated device. Unlike software wallets, Ledger devices store sensitive information offline, protecting it from online threats.
These compact devices connect to computers or mobile devices via USB or Bluetooth, allowing users to securely manage their digital assets while maintaining complete control over their private keys.

Ledger Device Setup Process
Unbox and Inspect
When you receive your Ledger device, carefully inspect the packaging for signs of tampering. Ensure the holographic seal is intact. Ledger devices include the hardware wallet, USB cable, recovery sheet, and keychain strap.

Download Ledger Live from the official Ledger website. This application serves as the interface for managing your cryptocurrency assets. Install it on your computer or mobile device following the platform-specific instructions.
Initialize Your Device
Connect your Ledger device and follow the on-screen instructions to set up as a new device. You will be prompted to choose a PIN code that protects physical access to your device. This PIN is required every time you connect your Ledger.
Secure Your Recovery Phrase
Your device will generate a 24-word recovery phrase. Write this phrase on the provided recovery sheet and store it in a secure location. This phrase is the only way to recover your funds if your device is lost, stolen, or damaged.
